I\u2019ve been married to Tom for three years. Before our marriage, I had my two dogs, Max and Bella, who are like my children. Tom always seemed to understand this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before a two-week work trip, Tom reassured me, \u201cI\u2019ll take care of Max and Bella. You go and do your best at work.\u201d I felt relieved. But once I settled in at my hotel, my mom texted, \u201cIs everything okay with Max and Bella?\u201d She sent a picture of them tied up outside, looking sad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I called Tom, trying to stay calm. \u201cWhy are Max and Bella tied up outside?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI thought they needed some fresh air,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ll bring them back inside soon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The next few days were filled with worry. Despite Tom\u2019s assurances, I couldn\u2019t shake off my unease. My mom visited again and found the house messy. I asked her to take the dogs to her place. \u201cI can\u2019t trust Tom right now,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I returned home early, Tom was surprised. \u201cWhere are Max and Bella?\u201d I demanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey\u2019re outside,\u201d he replied. I revealed my mom had them. Tom accused me of overreacting. \u201cMaybe there isn\u2019t space for you in my life,\u201d I retorted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I left for my mom\u2019s house, feeling a sense of relief. The next day, I called a lawyer. \u201cI\u2019m filing for divorce, Tom,\u201d I said firmly. \u201cI can\u2019t do this anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tom moved out by the end of the week. Alone but with Max and Bella, I knew I had made the right choice. My dogs are my family, and anyone who can\u2019t accept that doesn\u2019t belong in my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
